The Twilight Folk posses a genetic fluke which gives roughly 50% of the race an affinity to Shadow, and roughly 50% an affinity to Light.
Twilight Folk with an affinity to Light are more likely to feel the pull of the surface world.
  • kitsunejin
  • see misc
  • Tunare
  • Folx Numeroso
  • fox-like in appearance and size
  • magically granted speech, lifespan
  • MISC: Unlike most furry races, they are mostly fox. The other part of them is simply a magical enchantment that allows them to act like any other furry race. This race was created by a small group of elves, which were mostly killed during the transition of Britiana to Kalshana. Rumor states that one of the elves is still alive somewhere. Ever since they were killed, the number of kitsunejin has stopped increasing, leaving the population very small. Most kitsunejin call other kitsunejin "brother" or "sister," even though they are most likely not related.
A kitsunejin's lifespan depends on the enchantment put onto them. Mostly, the enchantment is elven, and therefore the Kitsunejin have an elven lifespan, though some have been known to be human in enchantment. Two kitsunejin procreating may end up in a magically saturated kitsunejin, a normal fox, or a normal kitsunejin.
  • slayer
  • unknown
  • --
  • Yari Koneko
  • --
  • --
  • MISC: Every recorded slayer, high and shadow alike, has been killed in inter-slayer warring instead of dying of natural causes; as such, their lifespans are unknown.

  • unknown
  • --
  • Yari Koneko
  • spindly limbs, thin body; light blue skin with a light glow, many spines growing from skin; white, almond-shaped eyes; no apparent nostrils or ears; semi-corporeal
  • affinity toward illusion and lightning magics, telepathy; planewalking (higher planes)
  • MISC: High slayers are indigenous to the island of Becold. They are semi-corporeal, wraith-like beings and would be considered... highly eccentric. They reproduce by budding, much like yeast, and are highly social creatures. Only one high slayer has ever been sighted off of Becold.
  • slayer shadow
  • unknown
  • --
  • Yari Koneko
  • spindly limbs, thin body; black skin with a light blurring effect, many spines growing from skin; white, almond-shaped eyes; no apparent nostrils or ears; semi-corporeal
  • affinity toward illusion and shadow magics; planewalking (higher planes)
  • MISC: Slayer shadows are also indigenous to Becold, and also semi-corporeal wraith-like beings. They are much more down-to-earth than high slayers, and much more "human." They show more emotion, and also reproduce by budding. They are also highly social creatures.

Sounds neato. What weaknesses might they have, and how do they live (i.e. with other demons, forming groups with others of their kind, loneresque, etc.) How many are power-seekers--it seems there'd be a lot of distrust all around, not as big a problem with other races as with their own (propagation and all that).

Weakness: Holy and Mythril

Lifestyle: Being a warlike society, the 'weak' are culled at an early age to ensure that the breeding stock is strong. Children that survive their fifth year "Ordeal" are considered truly strong and face their next Ordeal at Fifteen, then again at 30 before they are tested then only by the life they choose to live.

Thanks in part to these practices, the Ex'vir are a strong race, though small. There is a central village located away for all other societies, where they come together but for the most part they are nomadic and independent no choosing to live for very long among their own kind. The central city migrates between two points: A sacred burial site and the sacred cavern where they were supposedly 'birthed' by Kayne and Indari.

The quest for power drives the Ex'Vir to constantly seek challenges so that they might gain the most brides and prestige among their kind. They cause a great deal of trouble for the High Order demons, who can never seem to round up anough Ex'Vir to eliminate the race. Demons that kill a great deal of Ex'vir however have the added bonus of becoming targets due to their strength and cunning. So most don't bother to do much more than avoid them and keep them far away.

This makes me wonder what their views are of men and women and proper relations between the two. What are their families or marriage situations like? Is a long-term relationship between two Ex'Vir with breeding potential valued at all?

I would guess that they're very strongly opposed to exogamy, and would much prefer Ex'Vir breed within the species, but what happens if they don't? Would there be any reason for an Ex'Vir to introduce different blood?

Though women go through a great deal to bear children, there is an "inherent weakness" in that they are incapacitated for 10 months of pregnancy and the male must care for both her and the unborn child (Who is weak by default). Males outrank women because of childbirth. Normally, woman can fight just as well as any man and that makes them more attractive. Scars and disfigurations are not unattractive but rather signs of battle and experience. Women take great pride in being accepted as a bride to a fine Ex'vir because it means that they have also fought well and are equal to their mate if not for a short time. A dominating female will often refuse mating to any male that does not impress her since being pregnant is such a huge hassle and puts her in a compromising position. Needless to say children are rare and valuable. Much training goes into child rearing so that they can pass their yearly ordeals.

As for long term relationships, there isn't much value placed on it, since skill levels change and a female or male that was once acceptable may become unacceptable or a new male or female may become more acceptable. If two remain together for a long time, the assumption would be that the two parties couldn't do any better for themselves and that's fine. Mutual love is not an emotion that is common among them but not impossible.

Exogamy is looked down upon. To breed with non-Ex'vir is to say that Ex'vir blood is somehow inferior to the new blood. Ex'vir are a proud race and sees other races as separate entities. Not necessarily below them but 'not the same' and therefore he cross-breeder is bringing in different blood.

pd Rydia (Posts: 4615) 2007 Mar 17 20:53

I'm guessing then that breeding is felt to be, on the part of the female, something of a cultural or even religious duty. Infertility could easily be seen as a blessing or sign of divine favor--the taking away of the natural weakness of the female--and if that were the case, there'd be not a few ex'vir (ez'vir?) trying to achieve that through other means, to boost status.

Also: this is neat stuff.
