- Composed of spun solid, energized filaments of unknown composition (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly"; TOS: "The Tholian Web")
- Fibers extruded from device in aft section of individual vessels (TOS: "The Tholian Web")
- Assembled in web-like structure composed of one or more faces, either as barrier or as encompassing polyhedral structure (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly"; TOS: "The Tholian Web")
- Requires at least two vessels (TOS: "The Tholian Web")
- Speed of assembly proportional to number of involved vessels (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly")
- Once spun, additional fields seem to be projected from triangular facets, forming a continuous structure (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly")
- Capable of contracting and damaging or destroying a vessel (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly")
- Absorbs energetic particles or fields attempting to pass from within structure, distributing and dispersing them across the structure (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly")
